With Etched and Aquatint Illustrations by Joseph Grego; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 694 pages; 1st edition, thus; limited to 870 sets for England and America, this set numbered 453. Two volumes, complete in original brown cloth with seal in 3 colors to upper boards and titles in gilt to spines. 351 & 343 pp. Bindings shaken and hinges tender with splits to rear endpages in both volumes. Cloth nicked and frayed at spine ends, with trace rub through at corner tips. A mall closed puncture to the cloth at spine Vol II. Handsomely illustrated with 25 etchings and aquatint engravings by Greco, supplied in duplicate with the 2nd hand colored and all tissue guarded. Front and rear endpages foxed; title page of Vol I cracking in the gutter and nearly loose. Here and there a mild gap between signatures and several plates coming loose from the binding. Prior ownership small name and address label to front pastedown and a small ink name stamp in the gutter of the contents page. A good set for rebinding or rebacking. ...
