About This Item

London: Adam and Charles Black, 1905. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Original decorated hardcover, combining gilt lettering with surrounding brown and orange design, Beige boards, no dust jacket. Top edge gilt. Heavy paper for text and color plates. Pages are rough cut. For the era, 1905, having these color reproductions of Rembrandt's paintings was a stupendous advance, writes Menpes, who "adapted and developed the modern process of colour printing, so as to bring it into sympathy with the subject." All plates present. No foxing to pages. All color plates in fine condition with their thick paper protectors. Solid binding. Front endpage is stained from some piece of paper resting on it too long. Some minor soiling to boards. 4to. 50 pp. plus two pages of ads.
