Large 8vo. - contemporary calf binding which is heavily rubbed and worn with some leather losses to board edges where boards exposed and small loss to corner of rear board - front cover loose and rear hinge and joint breached -previous owners name in ink to front free endpaper and title page - waterstaining to lower corners of p.99+ and loss to lower corners of p.173+ but no loss to text and probably due to effect of water - previous owners name in ink to title page and handwritten text (a prayer) to rear blank page - 'scarce' written in ink to front free endpaper - tear repaired to edge of title page - attempted repair to tear on page 189 where paper has been roughly sewed to page edge - ow good, text clean and bright, text block itself is solid - early edition of popular 18th century work - 219 pages
