About This Item
Glasgow: Printed by Robert and Andrew Foulis, 1766. 197pp, [1]. Contemporary gilt-ruled speckled calf, contrasting red morocco lettering-piece. Lightly rubbed. Armorial bookplate with initials 'S.B.' to FEP, remnants of early circulating library label to verso of title. A rare Foulis edition of an English translation of De Mortibus Persecutorum by early Roman Christian author Lactantius. Burnet completed the translation, which is prefaced with notes on the work, whilst exiled in Holland during the reign of James II, drawing parallels between the Latin study of the persecutors of fourth-century Christianity and contemporary Protestantism. ESTC records copies at only two locations in the British Isles (NLS and Oxford), and none elsewhere. ESTC T168646.. 18mo.

Antiquates Ltd
Antiquates Ltd was established by Tom Lintern-Mole in 2007; we travel far and wide to buy, sell, and advise on rare books and manuscripts.
Concentrating on hand-press printing and early modern manuscripts, we pride ourselves on offering a varied selection of antiquarian works on a diverse range of subjects, leaning towards the interesting, the important, and the unusual.
We have a countryside bookshop in Wareham; we also regularly issue catalogues - do ask if you would like to be added to our mailing list - and frequently exhibit at regional and national book fairs in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, and York.
We also offer a valuation service (for either insurance or probate purposes), as well as advice on library development.
