About This Item
Reading, Pa: Berks County Treasurer's Office, 1857. Very Good -. 2 receipts printed in black on one side of blue paper. Israel Crivel of Hereford Twp. paid $7 to George Feather, Berks Co. treasurer, on July 8, 1857, and July 7, 1858, for the right for to mill for one year. George Feather (d. 1866) served as treasurer of Berks Co., Pa., from 1855 to 1859. In 1858 he sent the state a total of $156.80 collected for millers' licenses. He had previously served as treasurer of Reading from 1847 to 1855. Crivel is a very uncommon family name. No other record of an Israel Crivel has been located. In Very Good- Condition: each has a small hole near the center, probably indicating that the license had been nailed to the wall to show compliance; 1-cm. tear from one edge of the 1858 license, without loss; 1857 license slightly soiled.
