About This Item
London: Oxford University Press, 1956. Book. See Description. Hardcover. First Edition. 10" x 7 3/8". xii, 269 pages, frontispiece and 22 black and white illustrations and designs. The new St. Paul's would be the first cathedral to be built in England since the Reformation; the Archbishop and clergy were anxious to show that the Church of England was not behind that of Rome in its capacity to erect splendid symbols of its own religious vitality. A fascinating narrative account of the designing and building of the St. Paul's Cathedral that survives today. Useful Bibliography. Hb in original publisher's cloth; no dw. Ex University library - sticker on front paste-down, occasional small stamp in margin, 'NA' in white letters on spine. Nonetheless a very good copy, where the marks of previous library ownership are not intrusive..
