London: Cassell and Company, Ltd. 1902 Cr.8vo. xvi,279pp. frontispiece and 85 illustrations on plates, map. "... personal impressions of a journey made across Siberia through Manchuria in the autumn of 1901..." The author, a journalist crossed Siberia on the Trans Siberian Railway and entered the prohibited Russian zone of occupation in Manchuria. A signed presentation copy from the author to Thomas Parkin with Parkin's bookplate. Tipped in is a 3 page ALS from the author as well as a christmas card from him and some relavent newspaper cuttings. Among the subjects discussed in the letter is the colour of the book's cover (yellow,) - 'The cover wants dying or die-ing.....It gives me an attack of Jaundice to look at it.' A few marks to the covers, spine browned, a very nice signed copy of the first edition in the publisher's yellow cloth with red lettering to spine and upper board.
