About This Item

1963-01-01. Paperback. Good. JR Publications [Published Date: 1963]. Sheet music, for the beginner, intermediate & professional drummer. Paper covers, 61 pp, plus 3 pages of ads for other Joel Rothman books. In good condition. Brown illustrated paper covers have light bumping and creasing to edges and corners and light overall scuffing with a bit of the color scuffed off along edges. Binding tight. Pages lightly aged but otherwise unmarked. NOT Ex-Library. NO remainder marks. One of Rothman's earliest drum books, now out of print. [From About the Book] This book contains three sections. In section A, the quarter note acts as the basic unit for counting. Exercises in 3/4, 5/4, and 7/4 are presented in a developmental pattern which generally coincides with other books for beginners in respect to the division of the quarter note. The only real difference is the fact that the exercises are in odd time signatures, whereas in most other books for beginners the exercises remain in 4/4 or some other closely related time signature, such as 2/4. In section B, the basic unit for counting is the eighth note. This section is the next logical step in a student's knowledge and development of rhythm. The exercises, for the most part, are based on the exact rhythms notated in section A. The basic difference lies in the fact that the exercises have been transposed to eighth time. In the final section, part C, the sixteenth note acts as the basic unit for counting. Although comparatively little drum music has been written in sixteenth time, there is enough to make many musicians feel unnecessarily uncomfortable.
