About This Item

New York, NY Random House: Pantheon Books, 1987. Paperback First Edition (1987), unstated. SIGNED BY ART SPIEGELMAN. "City of Terror Trading Cards" and "Two Fisted Painters Action Adventures" tacked in. Very Good+ in Wraps: shows indications of very light use; light wear to the extremities, with a tiny, very faint crease at the lower corner of the front panel; mild rubbing to the panels; the binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Free of creases to the backstrip. Free of creased or dog-eared pages in the text. Free of any underlining, hi-lighting or marginalia or marks in the text. Free of ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, or labels. A handsome copy, structurally sound and tightly bound, showing mild wear. Not far from 'As New'. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. Folio (14.15 x 10.55 x 0.25 inches). 90 pages. Decorated inside front covers. Paperback Original. Illustrations in color and black & white. Language: English. Weight: 20 ounces. First Edition (1987), unstated. Trade Paperback. Required reading for the post-literate. contains some of the classics of "New Wave" cartooning. Included is work by Spiegelman, Mouly, Moriarity, Mariscal, Tardi, Capelle, Kaz, Beyer, Burns, Munoz, Swarte, Griffith, Meulen, etc. It is a collection of cutting edge European and American material from the mid-seventies to the mid-eighties. The tone is intelligent, sophisticated, and existential (or is it nihilistic?) Visually, it is an eclectic feast for the eyes. It has been called a magazine of visual literature, and I personally think that this perfectly sums up RAW. This is a large, oversized publication, softbound, mostly black and white, with full-color cover reproductions. Bound into the volume are Art Spielgelman's all-color comic, "Two-Fisted Painters", and Mark Beyer's "City of Terror" bubblegum cards. If you like this book, then track down the three smaller format RAW reprint volumes published by Penguin. SIGNED BY ART SPIEGELMAN.
