About This Item

Hicksville, New York, U.S.A.: Exposition Press, Inc., 1971. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Very Good+/Very Good+. Extremely scarce first-person account of "a city's devastation,'' referring to the riots that ravaged the city in the summer o 1967, focusing on the horrific fires of Sunday July 23rd. The author was not a political activist or famous person, but simply an unknown African-American healthcare worker living in the city with her husband & young son, who saw her city, literally, going down in flames & felt she had to speak out & encourage all Detroiters, black and white, young and old, to unite in hopes of a better future. A very moving & powerful book that offers a unique perspective on that place & time! A FIRST EDITION, first printing, the book is a slim hardcover with black cloth-covered boards & gilt lettering to spine. Condition is VG+: exceptionally clean, pages off-white, binding secure & straight, feels tight & never opened! Only flaws are 1) a hint of rubbing to corners & foot of spine, 2) heavy tanning inside both covers--none on interior pages; 3) heavy musty odor-- please do not order if you are extremely sensitive! The unclipped DJ, with orig. $4.00 price intact on front flap, is also VG+, with light soil/discoloration along creases of both flaps & some light staining inside. Nicely protected in new mylar cover. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received Weekdays by 2 pm (Pacific); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
