Little, Brown & Co., 1900. Hardcover. Good. Monterey edition, 2 volumes complete, blue cloth hardcovers with floral illustration in green and off yellow to cover and spine with green and gilt borders to both and top page edges gilt, good + hardcovers (no jackets or slip) are still bright and tight while showing a gift inscription at front blank of volume one, light soil and rubbing to both volumes, short closed tear at bottom of pastedown of volume one near hinge, same type of tearing along length of both pastedowns near hinges of volume two, bit of soil to top page edges of both volumes, light gutter spitting in a couple of places along with some additional minor trace wear to both. Two volumes combine for over 600 pages and feature the illustrations by Henry Sandham. Still a pleasing copy of this two volume Monterey edition of Hunt's classic work set in California and centered around a mixed-race orphan girl and racxial discrimination.

Synopsis

Ramona, a novel written by Helen Hunt Jackson, is the story of a part-Scottish and part-Native American orphan girl growing up and getting married in Southern California, suffering racial discrimination and hardship. Originally serialized in the Christian Union on a weekly basis, the novel became immensely popular. Overall, it has had more than 300 printings, been made into four film versions, and has been performed as an outdoor play annually since 1923.
