About This Item

Penn Publishing Co., 1914. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good -/No Jacket. Neither the series listing on the title page nor in the Introduction includes this title, so this is a first, or very early edition. The interior of the book is clean and tight, with no marks or damage, and just a few signs of previous use. The five black and white plates in the Illustrations list are present, with a sheet of tissue protecting the frontispiece. The beige covers are clean, with light wear at tips and corners. The illustration on the front cover (see attached image) is still bright. The spine shows reading creases, and light bumps to the top and bottom. Overall, a very nice copy of this early football story, but not quite crisp enough to be graded as Very Good. Synopsis: The Ramblers have entered Wentworth Preparatory School and become members of the football eleven. The last game of the season is a sensational one with Sharon Heights Academy, played under most unfavorable conditions. Many other things happen during the term. Stod Tucker, 3d, whose football aspirations are very great, has some extremely trying experiences which put his strength of character to the test. Larry Burnham opens a shop to aid him in paying his way through school; and the efforts of Dave Brandon and his friends finally result in bringing a crowd led by Toby Mullet to the realization that the way to happiness and success is through work and education".
