Hardcover, green cloth boards with gilt on front. Boards are quite clean for their age with only minor spotting present. The book would normally grade as near fine to fine but there is a pretty hard bump on the lower outside corner, which goes to the entire book. The internal binding is good, no hinge issues. The original owner's info is stamped on the front pastedown as well as the preface (Rev. Lewis J. Mendelis of Baltimore Md.) and his signature is lightly written in pencil on the opposite end page. No other handwriting or other markings noted. The last text page has a small chip in the upper inside corner and there are a few light smudges on the backside which is blank. The main pages have no noticeable issues other than the slight creasing from the corner bump mentioned earlier. Upton Sinclair attended a Lithuanian wedding in Chicago one afternoon in 1904. He fell in love with the people and their customs, and the first chapter of The Jungle is a fictional recollection of that party. This was first published in Lithuanian in 1908 and then again in 1912.
