[Leipzig: Insel-Verlag, 1903].. Folio sheet (33.7 x 26.5 cm), with image size 17 x 12.5 cm. Somewhat crudely matted, otherwise about fine. One of an unspecified but small number of proof impressions of this illustration by Behmer for the 1903 edition of Wilde's SALOME, translated by Hedwig Lachmann, and published in an edition of only fifty copies on Japan vellum. Captioned in pencil beneath the image "Fuer Buchen M." Although untitled here, it is referred to as "The Page of Herodias" in the secondary literature, and kneeling figure in black before a burning censer, with a barren tree and a full moon dominating the foreground and background.

One of 200 copies, from a total edition of 700 for England and America, on hand made paper and with the plates printed as proofs on Japanese Vellum. Each of these 200 special copies has an original print of the etching "The Lion and the Unicorn" , signed by Cameron, as the frontis and is numbered and initialed by the publishers. The etching was not issued separately. Illustrated throughout with 434 etchings, each with the original measurements, date of the plate, number printed and other general notes by Frank Rinder. Some occasasional light offsetting from the plates to the text pages opposite but generally it is faint where it occurs. Endpapers a bit browned but overall a very good clean and tidy copy in the publishers original delux binding of beige cloth on the boards with a white vellum spine, lettered and ruled in gilt. Top edge with original publishers black stain, the others untrimmed. Black endpapers. A fine, clean copy in publishers black cloth. Black and gold printed onlay to the front board. Spine with gilt lettering and small publishers design. The design gilt is rubbed but the lettering is fine and bright. Remains of the rare original illustrated dustwrapper loosely inserted. Most of it present, if torn and a little creased, apart from the front inner flap, so it could be easily restored if required.
