About This Item

London: Gerald G. Swan, 1947. First Edition. Hardcover. 192pp. Cloth. Signed and inscribed by Carlton Ross on the front free endpaper. Laid in there are three typed letters by Ross (all signed as Berkeley Grey, another of his pen names) and addressed to the dedicatee (a Mr Derek Smith). In one Brooks reveals to be the author of all the stories featuring Waldo, Inspector "Grouser" Beeke and "Ironsides" Cromwell of Scotland Yard (as apparently correctly guessed by Smith). In another he also reveals to be Carlton Ross and promises to send Smith a copy of Racketeers of the Turf (although his thoughts on this novel are not exactly positive). There are some stains to the cloth and toning to endpapers. The front corner tips are bruised. A very good- copy of a cheaply produced book in about near fine dustjacket with light fading to the spine panel. In Hubin, 1994, p. 700. ; Octavo; Signed by Author.
