About This Item

UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn. [Complete number line 1 3 5 7 9 8 6 4 2. Originally and first published 2007,henry Holt and Company,New York.] FINE/FINE-. No owner inscrptn and no price-clip to dw/dj.Bright,crisp,clean,matt,wrap-around red background with monochrome photographic immages design to front panel of dw/dj,with capitalised, matt white-lettered title and strap line and black lettered author name,spine/backstrip with repeated thumbnail detail from front photograph, with similarly coloured+ lettered author name+title as front panel, and publisher's capitalised black-lettered+illustrated colophon to foot of same, rear panel with critics' b/w lettered reviews and a small closed tear to rear lower edge.Negligible shelf-wear, bumping, creasing to edges and corners – miniscule bumping to both head+foot of spine/backstrip - and apart from the one small closed tear to rear lower edge - no other nicks, tears or splits present. Top+fore-edges clean without foxing/spotting; contents bright, tight, clean, solid and sound - pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips, appears unread, other than my own collation. Publisher's bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered, original plain red cloth boards with bright, crisp, blocked black-lettered spine/backstrip,and immaculate plain white endpapers. UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,4-339pp [paginated] includes a Prologue,Pts I-III comprising 23,15 and 14 chapters respectively, and Author's Notes and Acknowledgements; plus [unpaginated] half-title+title pages,a dedication,a title separator page,a Prologue separator page, individual Pts separator pages all with a blank verso, and to the rear 4pp blanks. Visually the exterior appearance is still exceptional, and particularly internally, the book is also in an exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its age. It is only the exterior fault described that prevents a slightly higher grading for the dw/dj.Despite that,it really is still an exceptional, exemplary copy for its cleanliness and brightness. Corey Grace - a handsome and charismatic Republican senator from Ohio - is plunged by an act of terrorism into a fierce presidential primary battle with the favourite of the party establishment and a magnetic leader of the Christian right.A decorated Gulf War pilot,Grace insists on voting according to his own conscience rather than following the party line, and this stubborn independence - together with his growing romance with Lexie Hart,an African-American movie star - has earned him a reputation as an unpredictable iconoclast. But Grace is still haunted by a tragic mistake buried deep in his past, and now his integrity will be put to the test in this most brutal of political contests,in which nothing in his past or present life is off-limits. As the pressure of the campaign intensifies,Grace encounters betrayal, excruciating moral choices and secrets that can destroy lives.Ultimately the race leads to a deadlocked party convention at which Grace must resolve the conflict between his feelings for Lexie and his presidential ambitions - and decide just who and what he is willing to sacrifice. A vivid and sometimes frightening depiction of contemporary power politics,'The Race' is an extraordinarily compelling story,a novel meant as much to make you think as for you to enjoy.
