1944 four volume hardcover set as pictured. Originally published in 1934-35 this is a comprehensive biography of the military commander of the rebellion, with many b&w illustrations, maps, extensive notes, index and bibliography. Volume 1 includes a large foldout map of Virginia. Volume 4 includes Lee's will and death mask. Bindings are intact in all volumes. Red cloth boards with gold stamping are lightly soiled and faded over spine with light edge wear. Edges of rough cut text blocks are tanned with a few small stains. Endpapers tanned with previous owner's bookplate on FFEP and booksellers sticker at rear. Texts appear clean and unmarked. No dust jackets. Price includes extra mailing cost due to weight.
