first edition, first issue 3 vols. 8vo. [4 (half-title & title)], lxiv, 273, [3 (blank)]; [4 (half-title & title)], 331, [1 (blank)]; [4 (half-title & title)], 360pp., original green cloth-backed paper covered boards, printed paper title labels on spines, front free endpaper of vol.II neatly removed and a piece torn from upper corner of rear endpaper of vol. III, small piece chipped from one label with the loss of a few letters. An exceptionally fine copy in its original state.
Contemporary signature "C. B. (?). Byrne" in a light and spidery hand at head of title page of vol. I and a light (later?) penciled inscription on half-title of Vol. II "Robert Hitchcock/ Upper Baggot Street", [Dublin].
