1871. Wood-engraving. 585mm by 400mm (sheet). 'The Queen and the Princess Louise. A Sketch in the House of Lords at the Opening of Parliament'. From 'The Graphic'. Central horizontal fold as issued. Reverse blank. CONDITION : Faint handling creases at in margins. Princess Louise accompanied the Queen to the Opening of Parliament for the second time on 9 February, 1871. She had become engaged to the Marquis of Lorne on 3 October, 1870. Queen Victoria was reluctant to open parliament in her widowhood. This occasion in 1871 arose through her need to get agreement for Princess Louise's dowry. The marriage took place on 21 March.
