Hardcover Book in Good Condition, Without Jacket. Literary Guild edition with the original Harper plates bound in purple cloth with gold banner across front, clean, with wear to lower front corner, upper front corner discolored, white streak to spine; sewn binding tight and solid. Spine and edges of rear cover sunned. Purple endpapers. Pages quite clean, unmarked, no creases, lightly toned. Top edge tinted, fore-edge and lower edge rough cut. Supposedly based on interviews with the Count de Toulouse Lautrec de Savine as told to the feminist British novelist and poet, Stella Benson, In reality, a metafictional, wonderfully playful text way ahead of its time. The eposodes alternate between the incredible yarns of thr 'old soldier' (the Pull Devil's side of the picture) and Ms Benson's retelling of them in her own way (the Baker's side). 275 pp. 8vo - over 7?" - 9?" tall. 1933, The Literary Guild, New York.
