NY: Farrar Straus and Giroux, 1977. First Edition. . Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First printing of this long narrative poem composed, then committed to memory by the author during his prison-camp years.Russian text and English translation (by Robert Conquest) on facing pages. SIGNED and dated (Feb. 1988) by the author on the half title page. Above the signature another hand has printed "for Alfred J. Kaiser". Laid in is a certified mail receipt addressed to Solzhenitsin in Cavendish Vermont (his residence while in exile in the US). Fine in a fine dustjacket. Solzhenitsin signed very few books, and signed copies of this title are rare.
