Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. 137pp. Scoring in red pencil through first 10pp. Grey cardstock half-title page and rear flyleaf. Protestant Board of School Commissioners, Quebec, stamp on endpapers. Prev owner name on ffep. Front hinge cracking, rear hinge sound. Marbled boards, leather quarter-wrap spine with gold lettering. Corners rubbed, lower front joint worn through, moderate wear to back joint; tail loose to 3cm. John Adams was Professor of Education in the University of London when he came to Canada and made this exhaustive observation of the Protestant School System in the Catholic run province of Quebec. His observations read like an anthropological survey and cover everything from school facilities and apparatus to teachers and teacher training, endowment of teachers and school fees to ages of pupils in various grades, curriculum, school inspections and notes on classroom teaching. The work concludes with a summary.
