Private Printing. Very Good+. 1886. First Edition. Hardcover. Blue blindstamped cloth with bright gilt lettering on cover, gilt top edges of pages, bevelled boards, black endpapers. 45 pages, engraved image of the Dodge Statue frontispiece, with protective tissue. The ink signature of Roswell Dwight Hitchcock and 1886 date on blank obverse of ffep, and Hitchcock bookplate inside front cover. Hitchcock was then President of Union Theological Seminary in New York and President of the Palestine Exploration Fund. Dodge had been a member of the Board of the Palestine Exploration Fund and a benefactor of both the Fund and of Union Theological Seminary. Hitchcock gave a major address at the unveiling. Minimal marks, Bangor Theological Seminary Library. In that address, Hitchcock underscores the fact that this is the first statue in America erected for the essential civil service of Philanthrophy. The statue stands in Bryant Park. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
