Boston: : Lee and Shepard Publishers (New York: Chas T. Dillingham),, 1889.. Hardcover first edition -. Good only (some overall wear to the covers, fraying to the sides of the spine, missing rear endpaper, but still sturdy condition.) Very uncommon in the first edition with no copies currently available for sale. . First printing. Classic Civil War novel about an Andersonville prisoner-of-war John Rockwell, who reaches across the "deadline" to pluck a bunch of violets, and about the Southern soldier and prison guard, Jack Foster, who ignores regulations and does not shoot him. Although there was beginning to be some recognition that neither the North nor the South were blameless, and that it was the nature of the war itself that… Read More

Moore covers the lives of the following women, most of whom are wives of Civil War officers:
·
P.B. Hurd
·
Mary Lee
·
Mrs. John Harris
·
Charlotte McKay

In which is given Full descriptions of the numerous battles in which she participated as a Confederate Officer...Blockade-Runner...Bond Swindle...etc. Edited by C. J Worthington, Profusely Illustrated. Richmond, VA: Dustin, Gilman & Co. 1876 First Edition. This is the story of a woman "out of her time" in her views, who thrived on the adventures she experienced. There was some dispute about the accuracy of her tales, but the men she fooled were not happy about what she did, so the disdain might be expected. There is some exaggeration, and there is much bravado, to be sure. Her exposure of many of the corruptions within the Federal government, the attitudes between the North and South all make this a very readable narrative. Condition: NOT a library book. 1864 1ed General McClellan Report Army of the Potomac CIVIL WAR Union MAPS

"The Union, which can alone insure internal peace, and external security to each State, Must and Shall be Preserved, cost what it may in time, treasure, and blood."
– George B. McClellan

George McClellan was an important American soldier and officer during the American Civil War and the Mexican-American War. He published a number of works on his involvement in the military, such as his 'Report on the Army of the Potomac'. This work is a collection of war reports from the Eastern portion of the Civil War. According to Nevins, this work is
"essential to any student of McClellan's campaigns; rich in documents and data, but defensive in tone."

Larned publishes a curious account of this work.
"It is, in short a letter to the people of the United States, under cover to the Secretary of War…He has omitted many documents essential to the formation of a just opinion; and it is only when we have read these also, in the Report,… Read More
