John Koenig Jr's attractive Dr. Johnson bookplate ('Sir, a desire of knowledge is the natural feeling of mankind.') to front pastedown; Christmas 1936 inscription to front flyleaf; and pencil marginalia throughout. Textblock lightly browned at margins, with a bit of offsetting to a couple spreads. Covers fresh, binding square and tight. Jacket moderately worn at edges, spine panel toned, with two-thirds closed tear to front joint of spine panel.. 16mo. 4.5 x 6.75 in. 249 pp. + adverts. Toledano Binding Style No. 7, in brick red balloon cloth, Kent's flying torchbearer device in gilt to upper cover, gilt title and gilt ML device to spine, top edge red; orange Kent endpapers. Presented in publisher's red-banded typographic dust jacket, with 242 titles advertised on verso. Introduction by PAUL ELMER MORE. Toledano 46.1.
