About This Item
Boston: Roberts, 1889. First Edition. 8vo, pp. 248. Bound in red cloth stamped in gilt and black, some light scuffing but a very good copy. Ex-library, with a bookplates (front and rear) and an embossed stamp on the title-page. Not in Krichmar. Reformer and home economist, Campbell (1839-1918) started writing after her divorce. This monograph follows up her collection of articles from The New York Tribune describing the NYC garment industry"[Blain p. 175]. These studies, the result of 15 months observation abroad, deal directly with the workers in all trades open to women ... Much of the discussion is on the lives of woman workers in England in the clothing trades, London shop-girls, London shirt makers, as well as workers in France and Italy.
