Leipzig:: S. Hirzel, 1910-11., 1910. Series: Prinzipien der Atomdynamik. Issued in 3 vols. (present is vols. I + 2 only, bound as one). 8vo. X, 124; XV, 286 pp. Figs. Later decorative steel-gray cloth; original wrappers bound in; rubbed. Very good. J.R. Partington's copy with his signatures (noted historian of chemistry). Stark won the Nobel Prize in Physics for his "discovery of the Doppler effect in canal rays and the splitting of spectral lines in electric fields" (the latter is known as the Stark effect). Charles Friedel (1832 – 1899), who contributed the preface for this edition, was a native of Strasbourg, France, and then a student of Louis Pasteur at the Sorbonne. In 1876, he became a professor of chemistry and mineralogy at the Sorbonne.
