New York: Henry Holt & Co., 1893. 689pp, 689pp, Two Volumes. Dark Olive Green cloth, gilt lettering on the spine. Fraying to the spine edges, white speckle on the front panel of vol. 2, wear to the corners. The rear hinge of Vol.2 is exposed, however intact and sturdy as are all hinges. A very early edition (says 1890 on the copyright page, 1893 on the title page.) of this classic work which summarized the field of psychology through the time of its publication. Psychology was beginning to gain popularity and acclaim in the United States at this time, and the compilation of this textbook only further solidified psychology's credibility as a science. There are four methods from James' book: stream of consciousness (James' most famous psychological metaphor); emotion (later known as the James–Lange theory); habit (human habits are constantly formed to achieve certain results); and will (through James' personal experiences in life). .
