First English edition, a translation from the second edition of the original German with revisions, corrections, and added notes by Robert E. Luce. Hilbert (1862-1943) was a German mathematician who originated the concept known as Hilbert Space, which is used in pure mathematics and in classical and quantum field theory. Famous for his attempt to axiomatize mathematics, this is his classic treatment of symbolic logic.
