The book itself stamped Harcourt Brace Jovanovich to the spine (the US publishers) with inserted Macmillan title page as called for, as well as the unclipped dust wrapper showing £3.95 (also as called for) and with 'M' [for Macmillan] to the spine. Unaccountably scarce and far more so than the US first edition. The book is presented as an abridged version of a fictional book by S. Morgenstern, and Goldman includes commentary throughout the story that tells the story of a young woman named Buttercup and her true love, Westley. Buttercup is engaged to the cruel Prince Humperdinck, but she is still in love with Westley, who disappeared years ago.
