The Prince Niccolo Machiavelli is one of the most important figures in 15th- and early 16th-century Renaissance philosophy. His works helped define what has become political science. His most famous work "The Prince" has infamously coined the term 'Machiavellianism' regarding politics and dishonest politicians. It has often been considered the first work of modern philosophy, mostly because it conflicts so strongly with Catholic doctrines concerning politics and ethics at the time.In 'The Prince,' Machiavelli treads a line between accepting tyranny and supporting free republic. He advises leaders on 'acceptable' tyranny, justifying many immoral actions taken by kings and princes; however, this point likely was written to encourage medieval Catholicism to be less strict in their relationship with the law. Ultimately, Machiavelli was seeking to provide rulers with a guide on how to be accepted by their subjects - however necessary - be it commanding respect, demanding actions through law, using bribery, or even imparting fear. This 1686 French edition includes the treanslation adn commentary of Abraham-Nicolas Amelot de La Houssaye.Item number:...
