About This Item
Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1898. "Being a Series of Letters of Adina, a Jewess of Alexandria, supposed to be sojourning in Jerusalem in the days of Herod, addressed to her father, a wealthy Jew in Egypt; and relating, as if by an eye-witness, All the Scenes and Wonderful Incidents in the Life of Jesus of Nazareth." This is a Very Good Plus copy of the First Edition Thus, a new edition with corrections and editions by the author (an Episcopal minister, 1809-1860). Green cloth binding with maroon lettering. Lightly frayed at the top of the spine. Mildly bumped. Contemporary (1902) previuous-owner name on FFEP. Clean text; 474 pages, with six pages of publisher's adverts in the rear. There are four pages of adverts in the front as well, including one for the present volume and setting out its express purpose to be the conversion of Jews. This work had been a best-seller for some four decades; an interesting forward sets out Ingraham's problems with copyright protection, or rather the lack of it. No dustjacket. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. First Thus.. Hard Cover. Very Good Plus/No Jacket.
