About This Item

Sydney: Macmillan. 2012. Very Good condition. Illustrated with Black and White Photographs. Robust, professional packaging and tracking provided for all parcels. 393 pages. The triumph and tragedy of a Gallipoli hero, Hugo Throssell, VC. When Hugo Throssell joined the 10th Light Horse Regiment in 1914, he was emblematic of the young Australian nation at that time - full of youth, vigour and courage. These traits were to see him awarded a Victoria Cross after the battle for Hill 60 during the Gallipoli campaign. Badly wounded he was sent to England to recover. There he met his future wife, journalist, novelist and committed socialist Katharine Susannah Prichard. This relationship changed his life and by the end of WW1 he was ready to denounce the war and this put him at odds with his former comrades and the political establishment. He also suffered in other ways and in 1933 he killed himself. . 1st Edition. Trade Paperback.
