About This Item

New York,NY: Bantam Books, Inc. 1959. Mass Market Paperback. Near Fine. First Edition. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Book number A1908. This is the stark, bloody story of the Infantry, the foot-slogging men who battle the mud and rain and s now, killing and getting killed, in the inch-by-inch struggle for a small, ruined patch of enemy "real estate." It is also the story of young Lieutenant Eric Holloway, frightened, blundering, a "book - officer," thrust suddenly into command of a group of veteran soldiers who despise him and fear his ignorance - Curt Anders, author of The Price of Courage, has been twice wounded and 5 times decora t ed . His book is dedicated to "the officers and men of the combat arms of the United States Army - especially those who have known the terrible loneliness if being shot at." The spine has 1 crease. Th ere are two 1" light creases on the back cover. The top & bottom of the spine the front spine edge and the top front corner of cover are rubbed. The front cover is attached but a little weak on sp i ne. Th e previous owners name is stamped on inside of cover. The rest of the book has a strong spine. It's just the front cover that is a little weak (not real weak, just a little).
