Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1928. First edition with the Pitz illustrations, title page dated 1928. Lght brown cloth with color illustration mounted on the front cover, six full color plates, illustrated endpapers, 272 pages. Good condition with some cover rubbing, mainly to the corners and spine ends, good hinges, sound text block, pages adjacent to plates lightly age-toned, minor wear to the outer edge of one plate, pages clean with traces of a few pencil notes erased from the first three text pages, no names or other markings.. First Thus Edition. Hard Cover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
Synopsis
I mind as if it were yesterday my first sight of the man. Little I knew at the time how big the moment was with destiny, or how often that face seen in the fitful moonlight would haunt my sleep and disturb my waking hours. But I mind yet the cold grue of terror I got from it, a terror which was surely more than the due of a few truant lads breaking the Sabbath with their play.
