London: Constable and Company Limited, 1909. Shaw's pro-feminist comedy was initially banned by the Censor, causing the first performace to be private; a public performance was given two month's later. This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition. Rebound in purple cloth with gilt titling on the spine. Clean text; 39 pages, with a four-page catalog in the rear. This is CarlVan Vechten's cop, with his bookplate on the first free endpaper; SIGNED by Van Vechten 1910) on the front paste-down. While this copy has been beautifully rebound, present but not attached are the front and back panels of the original gray paper binding (the fourth state, with the price on the lower right of the front cover). In an archival plastic protector.. Signed by Carl Van Vechten. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
