Exhaustive study of Natural Philosophy by the English mathematician, astronomer, chemist, inventor, and experimental photographer. Herschel was the originator of the "Julian day" system in astronomy. Part I introduces general aspects of Natural Philosphy, part II introduces the principles and rules by which a systematic examination of nature should be conducted. This copy belonged to the Jewish scholar Harry Orlinsky. "A synoptical table of the contents of Dr. Lardner's cabinet encyclopedia" glued to inside front cover. Minor wear to edges. Corners rubbed and slightly bumped. Head and tail of spine bumped and slightly worn. Starting at inside front cover. Heavy foxing to end papers and title page. Else, a tight copy in good condition.
