He's only got two sides, a bad side and a worse side First edition, first impression, first issue, of the author's uncommon second book, preceded only by The Pothunters (1902). This copy has the correct points for the first issue, with the half-title verso listing The Pothunters only, the title page dated 1903, and no publisher's advertisements at the rear. Octavo. Original red cloth, spine and front cover lettered and decorated in black, blue, gilt, and pink. Frontispiece and 7 plates, all by R. Noel Pocock. Partially erased ownership signature to half-title. Spine lightly sunned and bumped, cloth marked and rubbed, still bright, one gathering slightly proud, scattered foxing to contents. A very good copy. McIlvaine A2a.
