About This Item
Philadelphia, PA: J.B. Lippincott Company, 1866. Hardcover. Fair. Philadelphia, PA: J. B. Lippincott & Co., 1866. 6 1/2 x 4 3/8 inches: pp. vi, 280. Sewn, worn paper-over-boards binding, with leather spine. Cover reads, rather faintly: "Smith's Second Book of Arithmetic.
"Stereotype Edition, Revised and Enlarged, with Exercises for The Slate. To Which is Added a Practical System of Book-Keeping."
Previous owner's name several times -- once in pencil and once in (now) brown fountain pen, listing the owner, the date (June 14, 2866), and the school as Old Field School, a type of school usually erected in an unused outbuilding on the grounds of working plantations. Sewn binding, some stains. Paper on cover is worn off at edges. Foxing, toning. Varying degrees of moisture staining on upper corner of pages. Worn but all pages present of this mid-Nineteenth Century math school text. Other than the name and date, book appears to be unmarked. Binding solid. Lovely old second-level arithmetic book, probably used in the State of Georgia in a school on the grounds of a plantation by the previous owner, Mary Eugeneia Jones.
