London: George Bell & Sons, 1880. Undetermined. near fine. 3rd Edition. [iv], 57, [2] list of subscriberspp. Octavo. Publisher's green cloth with gilt titles to spine. Discrete professional restoration to spine. A few small bubbles in cloth on front board. Front board slightly bowed. Corners very lightly bumped. Engraved armorial bookplate of Dermot, Earl of Mayo and old catalogue description to front pastedown, with some offsetting to ffep. Ownership signature of John Garland to ffep. Internally tight and clean, with only the occasional spot of foxing. An attractive copy. An attractive little guide to fly fishing for grayling with 10 hand-coloured, engraved plates. Each plate depicts natural flies and their tied imitations, with a guide to which flies should be effective in each month from March - October. This copy is from the collection of Edward Joseph "Ted" Garland, the Canadian ambassador to Iceland and Norway. Garland was an avid angler and also an influential founding member of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation, a precursor to Canada's New Democratic Party. (W&S 122) 1880
