About This Item
1926. FAST, Howard. POWER: A NOVEL. NY: Doubleday, 1962. 8vo., black cloth in dust jacket. First Edition. Signed presentation from Fast on the front endpaper, to author/ screenwriter/ director Robert Rossen: "For Bob and Sue who will understand the why and wherefor of this- all my best. Howard Fast. Aug 30, 1962." Rossen was a professional boxer as a young man but later wrote plays, often dealing with political issues. Both Fast and Rossen were blacklisted by the House of Un-American Activities Committee for being members of the Communist party. After two years Rossen gave the Committee the names of 57 members of the Communist Party and thus restored his career. Likewise, Fast was forced to publish one of his most famous works, Spartacus, after major publishing houses would not issue his works. A great association copy. Very Good (spine a bit cocked); worn (soiling & rubbing) d/j. $125.00.
