About This Item
New York: Grosset & Dunlap. Very Good in Good dj. [1923] (c.1911). First Edition Thus. Hardcover. [solid copy, moderate wear at extremities, top edge dust-darkened; jacket has some paper loss at top of spine (extending slightly into front panel and affecting top part of "POTASH" in title on spine), small chip at base of spine, also a somewhat ragged tear at bottom front hinge, extending a bit onto the front panel]. (B&W photographs) The archetypal bickering Jewish business partners, "Potash and Perlmutter" first appeared on stage in 1913, with Barney Bernard and Alexander Carr essaying the roles, then reprising them in several sequels. Bernard appeared in just one film as Abe Potash (the 1923 First National production for which this book is the tie-in); he died in 1924, and in the two subsequent P&P films the role was filled by George Sidney. (Alexander Carr played Morris Perlmutter in all three films.) This book contains four black & white scene stills from the 1923 film, directed by Clarence Badger. .
