About This Item
Sydney: Pluto Press Australia, 2005. Paperback octavo, very good condition, sticker top corner front flyleaf. 248 pp. Wayne Swan, then Labor Federal Shadow Treasurer, explains how Australia is a prosperous country, but the benefits of this prosperity are not being fairly shared. About 1 million working Australians and their dependents are below the poverty line. The Australian nation has become a frayed patchwork of winners and losers from economic change. Swan draws on the latest research data and his own experience of moving around Australia and talking to many people, including disadvantaged locations such as Palm Island, Redfern and the Glenquarie Estate. (He later became Treasurer in the Hawke Labor Federal government.).
