London: Harding, Lepard, & Co, 1827-1828. Cloth. Fine. 10.5" by 7". Unnamed. An absolutely exemplary edition of Lodge's selected portraits of the juggernauts of British history. Sir Edmund Lodge (1756-1839) was a distinguished herald; serving many years as an officer of arms, and writing extensively on his subject. Of particular note are his short biographies; several of which are appended to this selection of portraits depicting a great number of noteworties. One hundred and sixty entries; each volume containing twenty entries comprising of a protected engraving and a brief biography of the subject. Collated complete in 8 volumes. Rebound in brown cloth with gilt detail to the spine. Externally in lovely condition. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with the odd spot to volumes, heavier to the first and last few pages. The occasional contemporary pencil annotation. Very small tidemark to extremity of plate depicting 'Frances Theresa Stewart' in volume VII. Fine
