Boston: John B. Bachelder (At Lee & Shepard’s), 1875. 8vo. 361 pp., plus 3 pp. illustrated ads for the Gettysburg Guide and Longstreet’s assault. Frontisp. woodcut engraving, 151 woodcut engravings, 1 large folding colour railway map. Publisher’s emerald-green coloured cloth over beveled boards, black & gilt decorative lettering on front cover, spine (minor shelfwear, rubbing, minor bumping to corners), still a VG copy. Third revised & expanded edition of this excellent Victorian tourist guidebook, and specially designed to detail routes and excursion railroads to the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. In addition, the author has included an excellent section on Union Pacific and Central Pacific Railroad excursions to the Dakotas, Colorado, Montana, Utah, Idaho, and California, with special mention of Calistoga Springs and Yosemite.
