The first "reading edition" of this work, the rarest of Dickens's five reading editions.Containing three charming festive tales by Charles Dickens.'Boots at the Holly-Tree Inn' had previously appeared in Dickens's 'Household Works', while 'Mrs. Gamp' is an excerpt from 'Martin Chuzzlewit'.The 'reading editions', edited by Dickens and sold in uniform green wrappers, were sold at bookshops and in large numbers at Dickens' popular public readings, with with he toured Britain and the States. With one page of publisher's advertisement to the rear.Collated, lacking the title page. In the original publisher's paper wraps. Externally, wraps are detached but present. Edge wear to the wraps, with larger chips to the extremities of the front wrap, and a smaller chip to the head of the rear wrap. Large tide mark to the head of the rear wrap. A few smaller marks to the wraps. Internally, binding is weak, gatherings B and C are detached, other gatherings may detach from one another even with careful handling, pages 111 to the end are detached but present. Pages are lightly age-toned with a few spots. Ink inscription to the head of page 3. Fair
