About This Item
New York & London: Harper & Bros, 1899. Frederic Remington (1861-1909), one of the premier artists of the American West, began his art career for "Harper's Weekly" in the 1880s; three decades later, the west was gone but Remington's work remains as an authentic record. Originally published in 1895; this is a Very Good copy from an edition issued three years later in a different format than the First Edition. Uncommon. Brown/gray paper-covered boards with a tan cloth spine. Gilt lettering on the spine and a "Winter Count"-style illustration on the front cover. Profusely illustrated in black and white throughout. Clean text; 269 pages, with a one page advert for Remington's works at the rear (this page is stuck to the paste-down). Previous-owner signature on the FFEP; wear to the margins, with the spine faded but still readable; occasional smudges and a moderate amount of soiling. This edition is less common than the cloth-bound First Edition; a serviceable copy. No dustjacket; in an archival plastic protector. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Thus. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. Illus. by Frederic Remington. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
