New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, (1954). First Edition. Hardcover. Fine in just about Fine dustwrapper. Gorgeous copy. Joe Krush. Cloth-backed boards. Dustwrapper and 8 pen-and-ink illustrations by Joe Krush. This comic novella originally ran in THE NEW YORKER a few months prior to book publication. It was later adapted to the stage. Laid in is a receipt for purchase in 2001 for about twice the price we are charging.

Synopsis

Uncle Daniel Ponder may be a bit simple, but his heart is made of gold, and so is his fortune, but he's always giving things away.  His niece Edna Earle keeps a watchful eye on him as he falls in love with 17-year-old Bonnie Dee. The young girl gives him a "trial marriage" and then leaves Uncle Daniel with a broken heart. But why is gentle Uncle Daniel being charged for murder?
