Early days in Polk County, Oregon, are explored in this reprint of Polk County Centennial, originally published in 1947 by the Centennial Committee, plus excerpts from Oregon End of the Trail, a 1940 WPA project. This heavily illustrated 11 x 8 1/2" booklet is printed on 60# paper. The 3-color cover is printed on 80# card stock and protected with a vinyl sheet. The booklet includes a roster of Centennial officers, an early history of Polk county; a review of Polk County Progress by Earle Richardson; Weather Highlights by Cecil Riggs; a postal history by Lewis McArthur; a history of Monmouth by R.E. Swenson; a history of Independence; a history of Dallas by Wes Sherman; a look at sports by Bert Teats and Pebo Shaw; Fraternal organizations; Churches; a history of West Salem by Mrs. Verne Axelson; and histories of Falls City and Bethel. A list of heads of families in Polk County Oregon in 1850 with ages, birth state and occupation, is included, as well as numerous ads from local businesses.
