Later printing with "2" at the bottom of the page 13 and with Crosby, Nichols, Lee & Co. imprints listed. Octavo. 268 pp. with 4 pages of advertisements preceding title; lacks front free endpaper. Publisher's blind-stamped boards gilt lettering to spine. Boards show loss and fraying to spine ends; moderate edgewear; corners bumped; mild scuffing and spotting. Binding is sound. Heavy spotting to endpapers; lighter to interior and text legible throughout. Very Good.
Includes speeches, correspondence, and of course the text of the famous debates between these the politicians from their famous campaign of 1858. Notably, Lincoln had edited is speeches before their publication here and later Douglas would object that his words had been misrepresented. Relatively uncommon in retail despite the publisher's oddly specific claim of 24,996 copies sold at time of printing.
